KraussMaffei has core competence in three segments: injection moulding, extrusion and reaction processing. Different production processes are used in each of these segments.

In the injection moulding segment, the KraussMaffei Group markets injection moulding machines capable of manufacturing large volumes of plastic components and products. In these machines, thermoplastic materials are plasticized, injected into moulds, cooled and ejected or removed as finished components.

In the extrusion segment, the KraussMaffei Group develops and supplies machinery, systems and complete extrusion lines for extruding and compounding plastics and rubber. Compounding application-specific materials involves blending in additives and fillers to improve specific product characteristics and/or reduce material costs for customers.

In the reaction moulding segment, KraussMaffei develops and supplies machines and systems to mix polyol and isocyanate and mould the resulting polyurethane (PUR) compound. Examples of industries that use PUR extensively include the automotive industry (eg, to make interior trim components) and the insulation industry(to insulate fridges, freezers and building components).
