Bernhard Merki (* 1962).
After qualifying as a technical draughtsman at BBC Brown Boveri, Baden, in 1982, Bernhard Merki completed a Swiss army officers' training course (1982 to 1984). From 1984 to 1987, he studied mechanical engineering, specializing in plastics engineering, at HTL-Brugg-Windisch, and graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering (Dipl. Masch. Ing. HTL).
From 1988 to 1990, Bernhard Merki worked as a project engineer at Netstal-Maschinen AG, Näfels, Switzerland, where he handled consulting, sales and project management for semi-automatic and automatic injection moulding systems. Between 1990 and 1992, he earned a post-graduate MBE (Wirtschaftsingenieur) at IMAKA, Zürich. At the same time he was working as group leader in the Engineering division of Netstal-Maschinen AG. From 1992 to 1996, he was sales manager for Switzerland and from 1996 to 2002, international Director of Marketing and Sales.
Since 2003, Bernhard Merki has been CEO (Direktionspräsident) of the Netstal Group and since 2006 Vice-President of the executive board of Netstal-Maschinen AG. Bernhard Merki serves as president of the executive board of several subsidiaries of Netstal-Maschinen AG. Since the corporate form change, Bernhard Merki has been a member of the Executive Committee.
Since 2005, he has served on the supervisory board of the Greater Zurich Area (GZA), and as President of Euromap, the European committee of machinery manufacturers for the plastics and rubber industries. Since 2006, he has been a member of the board of management of the Glarus chamber of commerce and a member of the Swiss National Bank's Regional Economic Council for Eastern Switzerland.
