In injection moulding machines, electric motors are used in direct drives or to drive the hydraulic pumps. In electrical engineering terms, the motors are inductive consumers; as such they cyclically generate and reverse magnetic fields using the reactive power from the mains.

If you're operating injection moulding machines without centralized or local reactive-power compensation, you are billed for the reactive power flowing back to the grid. Even with a centralized compensation system, reactive power will cause power losses in your company power grid and you will have to invest in larger, more expensive line cross-sections to avoid problems.
