| DETAILED PROCESS DESCRIPTION
|
| DuroSet |
The DuroSet process is used to process free-flowing granular thermoset feedstocks.
The type of products manufactured from thermoset moulding compounds range from water pump components, pulleys, brake pistons and adaptive headlight components to ashtrays. Important characteristics of thermoset materials are high strength, stiffness and hardness as well as outstanding resistance to temperature extremes. |

| Principle |
| The main difference between injection moulding machines for processing thermosets and injection moulding machines for thermoplastics is in the plasticizing unit. Thermoset machines feature highly wear-resistant screws without a non-return valve. As in the PolySet process, the plasticized material is injected into a heated mould. Under pressure and heat, the material cures by way of chemical crosslinking (polymerization).
The plasticizing process is tailored exactly to the specific thermoset compound. The screws are characterized by high drive moments, high injection pressures and low screw speeds. A liquid-based temperature-control system for the barrel keeps the compound at precisely the right temperature. Included in the comprehensive standard program are functions such as mould-breathing and compression control, automatic purging and finely adjustable back pressure. |
| Technology |
| Pressurized water heaters accurately control the temperature in the plasticizing barrel and the feed zone. Material is prevented from flowing back during the injection process by a mechanical screw anti-rotation device. The DuroSet process is ideal for injection-compression moulding because the compression speed and the clamp force do not depend on the opening stroke. |
| Customer benefits |
- The plasticizing unit with its mechanical anti-rotation device ensure shot-weight constancy and high reproducibility.
- The long service life of the plasticizing unit guarantees long-term high quality of the moulded parts.
- The hydraulic clamp unit is ideal for injection-compression moulding. It guarantees a wide processing window and a very stable process.
